Gratitude Challenge

One challenge I received recently is to start a gratitude journal. I have always wanted to start a gratitude journal, but I get stuck. I have the rote 4 or 5 things I’m grateful for, and my journal always said the same thing daily:

  • Family
  • Friends
  • Dogs
  • Faith
  • Health

Very generic! Very boring! Yes I’m grateful for all of these things but I can also recite them automatically and not actually think about why I’m grateful for these things.

I received this challenge a week ago.

I have not started this journal. (Much to the chagrin of my persistent friend, who asks me daily whether I’ve started…and only sent a few eyeroll 🙄 emojis when the answer was “no” yet again.)

My thought…since my second challenge is to write more…is to combine the journal with the gratitude.

So here goes. I’m grateful for the challenge to think more about what I am grateful for, in hopes that this line of thinking will crowd out all of the negativity in my brain currently. I have spent too many days of my life focused on things that don’t move me forward. I feel…stuck. Forcing myself to look beyond my initial responses and focus instead on more positive aspects of my day will hopefully keep me on a more positive trajectory.

I can do this. Want to join me?
